Gathering wood for the pulp and paper mills at Willamette Falls was one of the main purposes of the Willamette Falls Railway, though it also provided passenger service for local families. This wood yard was located "above Field's Bridge" according to notes with the original photo, just on the far side of the Tualatin River. The image gives a great overview of the wood gathering operation, with two horse-drawn carts, a large crew, and extensive stockpiles of cord wood.
