A different view of the falls, taken from the diversion area at the upper end of the locks.
A different view of the falls, taken from the diversion area at the upper end of the locks. We know the photo is from about 1890, as it's labeled Crawford & Paxton, Albany, and Crawford became partners with Paxton in 1889.
In the foreground is a modest structure creating calm water at the head of the locks. Across the river can be seen a variety of industrial buildings on the Oregon City side. Blurriness in the distance is not a defect -- it's simply mist rising above the pounding of the falls.
