This family portrait, which includes the cat and dog, shows a typical slice of life for homesteaders in the coast range of southwest Oregon. This particular scene is from Kent Creek, near Winston, in Douglas County. You can see through the front door to a window on the other side of the house. A neat fence, a string support probably used for growing beans, and a small outbuilding are visible on the left. Detail views 1 and 2 give us a closer look at Ma, Pa and their son, who is identified on the back of the original photo as Bill Heller. -- This photo is restored and printed by Old Oregon.
