While Ruth Meiser is not credited on any of the Meiser photos I've seen, it was not uncommon for wives to work alongside their husbands in turn-of-the-last-century photography studios.
While Ruth Meiser is not credited on any of the Meiser photos I've seen, it was not uncommon for wives to work alongside their husbands in turn-of-the-last-century photography studios. The paired photos of her and her husband Jesse were actually both recorded on the same glass plate, a materials-saving practice made possible by movable backs on the old-time cameras.
Note in detail view 2 the elaborate mechanism for raising and lowering the large camera she is demonstrating. (I also like the bear-skin rug - a staple in studios of that time.)
