This overview of Portland was published in the 1890s by Frank J. Haynes as Number 1 of a series of magic lantern glass slides of Pacific Northwest subjects. Starting with a close-up of a muddy road along the West Hills, we look down across the still rural outskirts of town, through residential neighborhoods to the downtown harbors on the Willamette River. A careful look reveals board sidewalks crossing broad unpaved streets in the neighborhoods in the foreground. -- This photo is restored and printed by Old Oregon.
