Fish Hawk's accomplishments are celebrated in oral traditions - one of which was recounted in the collection of stories, "Coyote Was Going There", by Jarold Ramsey. In the account called "How Fish Hawk Raided the Sioux", it is stated that Fish Hawk "was a tough man; many times he had fought and come out all right". He "took the lead, he held the pipe, he was the thinker in travels".
