The steam shovel is clearly marked as a Marion Shovel - Model 20. Introduced in 1901, this model had a 1.25 yard bucket, and 228 of them were built during its run.
Known as a "contractor's model", this one is fitted for railroad tracks, though the rails have been removed both in front and behind the shovel at this worksite.
