"Modern" croquet reached England in 1850, and spread rapidly throughout the English colonies after complete croquet sets became available from manufacturers.
"Modern" croquet reached England in 1850, and spread rapidly throughout the English colonies after complete croquet sets became available from manufacturers. It likely reached Oregon by about 1870.
This photo was taken by the I. G. Davidson company in Corvallis in about 1885, thus about 15 years later. On the back of the original print the family is identified as "Barton", though the writing is not very legible, and the name may be slightly different. If you recognize the family or the name, please let us know.
The clothing is as interesting as the croquet equipment. A nice way to spend an afternoon!
