About all we know about Silto is that Edward S. Curtis published two photos of him in his multi-volume set, "The North American Indian".

Silto was identified by Curtis as part of the Quilliute, or Quileute people, who lived in northwest Washington. Known as excellent boat makers, the Quileute, along with the Makah, were accomplished whalers.
About 750 Quiliute now live in a reservation in Clallam County, near the mouth of the Quileute River. Highly fictionalized members of the tribe feature prominently in the "Twilight" books and movies, including Jacob Black and his father Billy.
