Opposing Forces is the title given to this scene by Newport photographer Albert L. Thomas, and it certainly conveys the activity we see here.
Opposing Forces is the title given to this scene by Newport photographer Albert L. Thomas, and it certainly conveys the activity we see here. Both water and rocks are strong in their own ways, but eventually the waves will overcome the rock formations.
Thomas spent his entire photography career based in Newport, unlike many photographers of the time who moved from town to town. Initially a jeweler who worked with agates, his appreciation of geological forces and materials can be seen in almost all of his photos.
