In 1909, the Fourth of July was on a Sunday, so this photo was taken on the Friday beginning the 4th of July weekend. According to a note on the back of our original print, we are looking north along Plush Avenue, the town's main street.
In the distance can be seen a baseball game, easier to see in Detail View 1. It appears we have some spectators, and perhaps an umpire, but nowhere near enough players to have nine on each team. Note on the left the freight wagon loaded with wool for the railroad.
Plush is located about 37 miles northeast of Lakeview, in Lake County. Its post office was established in 1888, so it was about 20 years old when this photograph was taken.
