This photo was taken between the time of the timber footbridge, in place from about 1883 to 1899, and the building of the current concrete bridge in 1914. It helps us appreciate how the waterfall looked for millennia before the coming of the railroad, which prompted the early timber bridge. Taken by John Ford, who specialized in logging photos, but also found time for other portraits and scenic views.
