Details
This striking portrait of an unidentified young woman in native dress was created by Seattle photographer Frank La Roche in 1899.
Perhaps La Roche's best known photograph, it has been reproduced many times. It's easy to see why - a compelling pose, an attractive subject, and a wonderful traditional costume all add to its appeal.
La Roche worked from 1890 to 1928, specializing in industrial, scenic, and quality portrait photography. He took many trips to Alaska, and published many photos of that area.
