The crew lines up on the side of the locks facing the river, as water seeps through from the full chamber behind them. This is a maintenance crew, as the locks were built some twenty years earlier.
This photo lends itself to larger prints, which allow "getting to know" the individual workers, shown in the two detail views. In detail 2 are the only two men I can identify. To the right is Thomas Miller, who crossed the Oregon Trail to the West Linn area with his parents in 1850. Sitting below is his son Ralph, who later worked for Adams Dept. Store in Oregon City.
