Recreated from a magic lantern slide, this photo shows three scout naturalists at the rim of Crater Lake with Steel. We know their names today mostly due to the book they wrote in 1931, "Three Scout Naturalists in the National Parks". They are Donald Kelly, Jack Edgemond, and Drew Chick. William Steel appears to be enjoying himself - perhaps telling stories of lowering the Cleetwood down to the lake in 1886, using this tree to anchor the cable.
