The U S S Portland, which would become one of the most-decorated ships in the U S Fleet in World War II, passes under the St. Johns bridge as she arrives in Portland. However, it must be pointed out that the ship was named after Portland, Maine - not Portland, Oregon.
The recently commissioned Portland visited Portland, Oregon for Navy Day, held that year on October 27th.
