Traveling through deep snow up the road to Timberline Lodge, in the year it opened to the public - 1938. Although the lodge was dedicated by FDR in September of 1937, the interior was not completed until February the following year.
Skiing that year was supported by the installation of a portable rope tow; the first chairlift, the Magic Mile, opened in November, 1939.
