This portrait of an older Native American couple was created by Spokane photographer Frank Palmer in the early part of the twentieth century.
This portrait of an older Native American couple was created by Spokane photographer Frank Palmer in the early part of the twentieth century. Unlike many photographers of his time, Palmer did not usually dress his subjects in costumes he provided. The result is a more accurate and less romanticized view of the native people, or "old originals", as Palmer calls them here.
This photo was likely taken on the Colville Reservation, originally created in 1872 in northeast Washington State.
