The Charman Brothers, Oregon City - c. 1864
Lennie (later known as T. L.) and Elmer Charman, ages about 4 and 3, who grew up to partner in a number of well-known Oregon City business ventures. The sons of Frederick and Mary, and nephews of Thomas and Sophia, Thomas Leonard Charman and Elmer Ellsworth Charman lost their father before they were 10, but grew up to be leading citizens of Oregon City.
They were partners in Charman & Co. Drugs, a brickyard, Charman Block in downtown Oregon City, and several real estate ventures, including a subdivision on the West Linn side of the river. T. L. was also a founder of the Oregon City Electric Company in 1888. Elmer died young, shortly after 1900, but his brother T. L. lived till after World War II, dying in 1946 at the age of 86.
