As with most old photos of taverns, this view of John's Saloon includes lots of interesting details. I especially like the carved wooden deer that is part of the back bar.
As with most old photos of taverns, this view of John's Saloon includes lots of interesting details. I especially like the carved wooden deer that is part of the back bar. Detail View 2 reveals the date - December 1915 - assuming they bother to change the calendar. It also shows the telephone, ready for patrons to answer or not, depending on their inclination.
Above the phone is a poster for Red Top Rye, made in Louisville, KY, which claimed the title of "America's Finest Whiskey". Detail View 1 gives us a closer look at the bartender, who I suspect is John. He looks ready to handle any issues that may arise.
