Indy-style cars pass the grandstands in the Tacoma Montamarathon, a 300 mile race held at Tacoma Speedway. The race attracted some of the top drivers of the era; some of there names can be seen along the infield fence.
The eventual winner was Eddie Rickenbacker, who averaged almost 90 miles an hour and had the fastest lap of 96 mph. “Tacoma was a good place to race,” Rickenbacker said years later. “It was one of the big ones.”
