Silcox Hut was built on Mount Hood by the WPA, finished in 1939, a year after Timberline Lodge opened.
It was the upper terminal of the original Magic Mile chairlift, and was also intended as a warming hut and starting point for climbers.
After the chairlift was relocated in 1962, the hut was abandoned and became derelict due to vandalism and fierce mountain weather. Restored in the 1980s, it is now available for group rentals.
Third from right in this group is George Henderson, the first publicist for Timberline Lodge.
