This well-compose print shows a popular early sternwheeler, the Claire, making its way under the Arch Bridge as it was under construction. At that time, several steamboats per day carried passengers between Portland and one of the two docks in Oregon City.
The steam and smoke combine with reflections in the river to create an appealing view.
