A ten-inch water main for West Linn is already in the trench, and pipe is being distributed to add a six-inch line to power the new municipal elevator along the bluff in Oregon City.
A ten-inch water main for West Linn is already in the trench, and pipe is being distributed to add a six-inch line to power the new municipal elevator along the bluff in Oregon City. There's lots of details to appreciate in this early 20th century view of upper Oregon City on 6th Street.
When the municipal elevator first opened in 1915, its water-powered mechanism achieved a 3-minute ride up the bluffs. By 1925, water power had been replaced by electricity, reducing the trip to 30 seconds.
