The Oregon City Bridge is the only Oregon bridge to be encased in gunite, which protects its steel frame from corrosive sulfur dioxide fumes from the paper mills to the south of the bridge.
The Oregon City Bridge is the only Oregon bridge to be encased in gunite, which protects its steel frame from corrosive sulfur dioxide fumes from the paper mills to the south of the bridge. Gunite was a new technology employed by Conde McCullough, who designed the bridge.
