Detail views 1 and 2 give us a closer look at traditional Kalispel canoes. Built on a framework of cedar, they are sheathed by a single piece of bark turned inside out - usually from large Western White Pine. The cedar was lashed together with chokecherry bark, the nose was birch bark, and the seams were sealed with pine pitch.
