This photo shows Silas (Si) Allen, an amateur archeologist who here is pointing out some details on a Columbia River area petroglyph. Born about 1900, Allen served as president of the Oregon Archeological Society in the 1960s and also worked at the first Merrybell project.
The petroglyphs shown are now on the Temani Peshwa Trail at Columbia Hills State Park, which means they were rescued during the construction of The Dalles Dam.
