Three local Native American men join the driver of this early, and quite substantial, automobile in a contrast of the traditional and the modern. While we've chosen to title it "Old and New", the original title given by the photographer was "Savages and Civilization".
Cars were as new to most people in the area as they were to these men, and horses would remain the main form of local transportation for a number of years. Note the sturdy kerosene headlamps in detail view 2.
