A young woman stands (not very happily) next to her tepee along the south bank of the Columbia River near the Dalles.
A young woman stands (not very happily) next to her tepee along the south bank of the Columbia River near the Dalles. Part of a series of photos of Native American life taken by Gifford while he was based in The Dalles from 1895 till 1910.
Note the sandy soil and the saddle leaning against the front of the tepee. You can see telegraph lines in the background, running along railroad tracks hidden behind a rise, at the foot of the bluffs.
