This photo gives us a great view of both a crowd of passengers on the sternwheeler Beaver, and also the original wooden lock gates on one of four chambers of the Willamette Falls Locks.
This photo gives us a great view of both a crowd of passengers on the sternwheeler Beaver, and also the original wooden lock gates on one of four chambers of the Willamette Falls Locks. These original gates operated from 1873 until 1941, when they were replaced by the current metal gates.
A close look shows levers on top used to open and close eight passages for draining water, and detail view 2 gives us a closer look at two that are open.
