Oregon City Elevator - 1924

The Oregon City Municipal Elevator, in a photo taken July 6th, 1924, the year it was converted from water power to an electric motor. Since the elevator has been a favorite subject of photographers over the years, the changes in the buildings in this block of Seventh Street are well-documented.

Prominent in ths particular view is the Bank of Commerce on the left, completed two years earlier, in 1922. The Bank of Commerce building was designed by Portland architect A. E. Doyle, well-known for many public buildings in Portland, including the Central Library and the Benson Hotel.
