One challenge of taking photos of the old State Capitol was being able to see the building through the trees. Ralph Eddy solved this problem by staging his photograph in the winter.
One challenge of taking photos of the old State Capitol was being able to see the building through the trees. Ralph Eddy solved this problem by staging his photograph in the winter.
By the time this view was created, the old capitol was over fifty years old, having been completed in 1876. It would not survive many more years, succumbing to fire on on April 25, 1935.
As with many of the Eddy photos shown here, this image was originally created for distribution as a postcard. Our prints are made from the postcard negative, but have a larger crop, and are printed in a variety of sizes.
-- This photo is restored and printed by Old Oregon from the original negative, courtesy of the Clackamas County Historical Society.
