This photo was taken of 177 foot high South Falls, the most visited waterfall in Silver Falls State Park, several years before the park was created.

One hundred acres including these falls was purchased by the State of Oregon, in 1931, and became "the nest egg which hatched into a completed Silver Falls State Park", according to then State Parks Director Samuel Boardman. Dedicated in 1933, the park continues to grow in size; the latest addition occurred in 2006.
