The south jetty was only partially completed in this 1892 view by photographer James G. Crawford. It would not reach its full 8,600 foot length until 1896. Below the construction trestle and heavy equipment we can see a Victorian crowd enjoying a summer day at the beach. (The original photo is dated August 10th.) Detail view 1 shows some young women in bathing attire, while detail view 2 reveals a more formally dressed group of onlookers.
