Senator Henry W. Corbett - c. 1867
This closeup of Corbett originated from the same Brady glass plate negative used to create the full body pose featured elsewhere on this site. However, we've restored the closeup view from a separate original. The two illustrate the different ways original photos were marketed and distributed in the 1860s.
The full body pose was likely printed mostly in larger formats, and was fairly expensive. The closeup version was printed mostly as smaller CDV prints, which were less expensive and more widely distributed. Thus this version starts from one of the CDV prints, which in addition to the cropping, differed from the larger view by the vignette shading around the edges.
See Related Photos below for the larger version, and for more information on Corbett himself.
