Sarah Jane Clear was born in Missouri in 1862, and came to Oregon with her parents John and Louisa Clear in about 1865, when they settled in Washington County. This photo was taken in Portland about the time of her marriage in 1882 to Cosby D. Dickerson, who worked at the Oregon City Woolen Mills as a carpenter. In 1898, Sarah and Cosby were divorced. With the help of her son Arthur, Sarah built a house in the early 1900s on 114 Apperson Street in Canemah that is still standing today. Sarah worked as a practical nurse in the Mount Brothers Hospital in Oregon City. She died in 1932. -- This photo is restored and printed by Old Oregon.
