Climax Engine Number 2 works to push three large logs up a steep grade near Grays River in southwest Washington. This engine was wrecked on August 30, 1899, so unless it was rebuilt, this photo dates to some time before that. You can read the name "Saldern Logging Co." on the side of the cab in detail view 1. Detail view 2 shows the stack of cord wood used to power the steam engine. -- This photo is restored and printed by Old Oregon.
