Lots of wheelbarrows are involved in the pouring of the bridge deck in this 1922 photo by Ralph Eddy. The arches are now carrying the weight, but have yet to be covered in gunite.

Eddy's series of photographs of the bridge's construction not only give us insights into how it was done "back in the day", but they also led to his lifelong fascination with bridges. In addition to his purely scenic postcards, Eddy photographed many of the Oregon bridges built in his lifetime.
