The Pond Monkey position in a sawmill has been described as the next-to-the-last step in a logging career; the last being night watchman. Of course, there are young pond monkeys also. In addition to working from the deck, pond monkeys get plenty of chances to scramble across logs in the pond, with the inevitable result of occasionally finding oneself in the water. One bit of advice from an old-timer, "Don't try to climb back on to a log from the side; it will just spin on you. Instead, always climb back on from the end." -- This photo is restored and printed by Old Oregon.
