This is a circa 1883 cabinet photo of a circa 1810 drawing of Reverend Clark Brown, husband of Tabitha Brown. A Congregational, and later Episcopal, minister, Brown died in Maryland in 1817 at the age of 46.
Three decades later, his widow Tabitha, at age 66, made the trip to Oregon with her family. Tabitha is best know as one of the founders of Pacific University, and was named by the 1987 legislature "the Mother of Oregon".
