This closeup view shows how the solidly built blockhouse still persisted thirty years after it was abandoned.
This closeup view shows how the solidly built blockhouse still persisted thirty years after it was abandoned. Located at the upper end of the Columbia Cascades as part of a number of forts created in the middle 1850s, mostly because of Indian conflicts, the Old Blockhouse was only used for a couple of years. Note the squared-off logs, punctuated by regularly spaced vertical slots for the rifles of its defenders.
