This crisp view of a surveyor and an exceptionally large petrified log was taken by photographer John F. Ford sometime around the turn of the last century.
This crisp view of a surveyor and an exceptionally large petrified log was taken by photographer John F. Ford sometime around the turn of the last century. We're unsure of the location, but know that Ford worked mostly near the mouth of the Columbia River, in both Oregon and Washington.
Note in detail view 1 that the man holds a surveyor's hatchet, which wouldn't accomplish much with the fossilized log. In his shirt pocket appears to be his surveyor's notebook.
