This portrait of an ocean-going log raft places its building in context, with some support buildings on the shore to the left, and a couple of tugs awaiting it in the right background. Huge chains bound these rafts together, which often held a year's output from a good-sized logging company. Many were bound for southern California, where wood was scarce.
