Hand tinting has been applied to photographs almost as long as there have been photographs. One of our earliest photos - a daguerreotype from 1854 - has tinting applied.
Hand tinting has been applied to photographs almost as long as there have been photographs. One of our earliest photos - a daguerreotype from 1854 - has tinting applied. Often the tinting was subtle, as in the rosy cheeks of this circa 1862 tintype.
The above image of an unknown performer is an early small paper print known as a CDV (Carte de Visite), a size often used as a calling card.
