White River Falls are located on a tributary of the Deschutes River, in Wasco County.
The White River, a tributary of the Deschutes, was well known to early Oregon settlers, as the Barlow Trail passed through the river corridor. From 1910 till the completion of The Dalles Dam on the Columbia in 1960, the falls were used to generate electricity for surrounding counties.
Today, the White River is designated "wild and scenic", and the falls themselves can be visited at White River Falls State Park. The name and address stamped on the back of the original stereoview, "Joseph Buchtel, 91 First Street", indicates it was printed in about 1871.
