The overhanging rock next to the railroad was once thought to resemble a profile of George Washington. We can't see it this close up, as we are only looking at the lower part of his nose.
This is near Oneonta, which in addition to the gorge was also a small community in about 1900. A small shelter can be seen in detail view 1, which was probably used by locals waiting to flag down the train. In detail view 2 we can make out the faint outline of St. Peter's Dome in the background.
