The view is from the west side of the Willamette River, in what is now West Linn. At this point new industry and housing developments were springing up, due partly to the construction of the suspension bridge from Oregon City in 1888. From left to right, we are looking at Willamette Falls Locks, the new paper mill, the lower end of the falls, and the mixed industry on the Oregon City side.
