This view by Asahel Curtis shows Light House Joe posing next to his canoe with his hand-made wooden harpoon and sealskin buoys. It was most likely taken at Neah Bay, home of the current Makah Reservation. The canoe is beached stern-first, which is the usual practice. The light colored item near the end is a piece of tin patching the scarf that holds the stern-piece in place.
