The original caption for this photo called it a "Typical Sandy Saw Mill", and it's likely there were a number of small, homestead-based mills like it in the Sandy area. From the log pond in the lower right, to the power provided by the steam-plant at center, to the stacks of finished lumber in behind it, we can see all the components of the operation. There also appear to be enough residences and outbuildings on the property to support several families. -- This photo is restored and printed by Old Oregon.
