Photographs of the falls with no footbridge are rare, though there was a period of almost two decades between the demise of the original timber bridge and the building of the current concrete bridge in 1914.
Perhaps photographers found the falls with a bridge to be more interesting. In any event, photos from this period allow us see what the falls looked like for centuries before the first bridge was built in the 1880s.
